Dress in green day for gold coin donation
Take on environmental projects during the week.
This could be a rubbish pick up, weeding session, planting day, conservation construction project, or pick an unloved spot at your school or near your school and give it some TLC!Connect with nature for the day!
Bush kindergarten or bush school, bird counts, bug hunts, nature art, a local bush walk, or a nature scavenger huntCheck out our online nature classroom or nature connectors for cool activities to do on the day
Come along to the Arbor Day Community Planting Event along Tauhara Road (alongside the back of the golf course). There will be free food and lots of free environmental education activities run by conservation experts. To bring a group, obtain RAMs (Risk Assessment Method strategy), and other details please RSVP with Heidi@greeningtaupo.org.nz
Another option is to plant some trees at your own school as a way to participate!
PRIZES FOR ALL PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS AND ECE CENTRES!
The first 30 schools and ECE centres that sign up will receive a prize pack that includes:
A book for their school/centre library
4 Native trees to plant on school/centre grounds, or to use as prizes for the dress in green day
A rat trap and box (on request only)
Vouchers for local attractions to give to students who show initiative by taking on a conservation project.
Bag of vermicast from Mynoke for your garden.
Art competition entry sheets created by Donovan Bixley for all students (please specify how many you would like). These will allow students a chance to show their creativity, by thinking about New Zealand Forest and the native plants, animals, and fungi that are making it their home to have a chance to win more great prizes from Quality Print.
Major Prizes!
All schools and ECE centres who sign up for the Greening Taupō Day School and ECE Competition will be in with a chance to win a major prize for showing the ‘Spirit of Greening Taupō Day’:
First prize: a restoration planting on your school/centre grounds (or in a green space of your choosing) with Kids Greening Taupō to the value of $1000, kindly donated by Contact Energy
Second prize: $500 voucher from Mitre 10 Mega Taupō
Third prize: $200 voucher from Mitre 10 Mega Taupō
This competition will be judged on the following criteria:
Students and staff dressing in green
Fundraising efforts
Taking on conservation activities, environmental initiatives, or connecting with nature in the first week of June
